SATURDAY, FEB. 4

The 16th annual Kuumba festival presented by TD returns to Harbourfront Centre with an entertaining and educational weekend celebrating Black History Month.

COST: Most events are free.

Downsview Park’s WinterFest is offering lots of ways to celebrate the winter season.

COST: Free admission

LOCATION: 1-35 Carl Hall Road, 11 am to 4 pm

Meet the hardiest of birds including flocks of chickadees, cardinals, woodpeckers on a Winter Birds Family Nature Walk.

COST: $2 suggested donation

Dog Sled Races at Kortright Centre for Conservation will include a weekend of snow activities (weather permitting).

COST: $9 for adults, $6.50 for children and seniors, Kids four and under are admitted free with their family.

SUNDAY, FEB. 5

The Monkey Bunch returns to the Drake with music for people who love music, comedy and the planet and really want their kids to love it too.

COST: $8 per person or $28 for a 4-pack

LOCATION: 1150 Queen Street West, 3 pm (doors open at 2:30 pm). Runs Feb. 5, 12 & 20.

Attend Fort York National Historic Site where kids can try an authentic War of 1812 soldier’s drill, learn how officers trained with the sword, experience a game that the Garrison children might have played and more.

Vaughan Celebrates Winterfest will offer free stage entertainment in the outdoor Amphitheatre, Tim Horton’s Midway Zone, Ice Zone Carving Demos, face painting, a pizza making workshop, displays, craft activities and more.

LOCATION: North Thornhill Community Centre, 300 Pleasant Ridge Avenue, 10 am to 3:30 pm

The Richmond Hill Winter Carnival is celebrating its 44th year with fun activities including a children’s midway, War of 1812 re-enactment, Muskoka wildlife shows, arts and crafts, face painting, ice carvings, stage entertainment, skating on the pond and more.

COST: Entry to Carnival is free; for $2 visitors can purchase a Carnival button and be eligible for dozens of prizes
