Best places to trick-or-treat

October 30, 2009

STAFF REPORTER

How do you figure out the best neighbourhood for your Halloween haul?

Well, we assumed a few things. Mostly, that densely populated neighbourhoods with lots of kids and above average incomes equals more treats.

So, using census data we compiled a GTA average for each of these four areas:

  1. Percentage of semi-detached homes which tend to be more densely population. (average is 7.52 per cent.)
  2. The average value of homes. ($395,839).
  3. Percentage of children up to age 14 (19 per cent)
  4. And family income. ($94,100).

We then looked at all neighbourhoods and weighted the values proportionally. (For instance a home worth $2 million would raise the neighbourhood average higher than a home worth $400,000 even though both are above the average.)

Then we added up the results.
