Ousted Toronto Catholic trustee seeks re-election

Angela Kennedy, the Catholic trustee ousted just last month after being found guilty of conflict of interest, has registered to run again.
She is now the eighth incumbent for the Toronto Catholic board to seek re-election in its 12 wards.
She registered just hours before nominations closed Friday.
Kennedy had told the Star in August that she would not seek re-election after an Ontario Superior Court justice said she violated conflict of interest laws during a May 2008 board meeting when she voted against staff layoffs even though it could have affected her children.
The ruling removed Kennedy from office but did not bar her from running again.
A second trustee, Barbara Poplawski, is also accused of conflict-of-interest in a case that remains before the courts. She too is seeking re-election.
Neither could immediately be reached for comment.
Kennedy was the second trustee from the board to be removed for conflict of interest. Last year, a court removed Oliver Carroll after finding his conduct “serious and indefensible” on multiple conflict-of-interest violations.
Many Catholic parents have said they are looking for change at the board, which has lurched from scandal to scandal over the past two years and remains under provincial supervision.
