Barely two weeks after her homecoming celebration, baby Kaylee Vitelli was rushed back to the Hospital for Sick Children yesterday evening "due to an infection and serious spike" in temperature, a family spokesperson said.
The 3-month-old girl, who made national headlines as a potential heart donor who defied her doctors' and parents' expectations April 7 when she survived being taken off a respirator, went back to Sick Kids around 5 p.m.
Kaylee, born in February with a rare brain malformation, was actually home with her parents and grandparents in Bradford for only six days after her May 14 release from Sick Kids.
She was taken to a local hospital last Wednesday after becoming sick, but an infection from a feeding tube spread and the hospital recommended she be transferred to Sick Kids, family spokesman J.P. Pampena said.
Kaylee's fever topped 38.8C (102F) yesterday, he said.
She was expected to spend at least one night at Sick Kids, he added.
