Carly interviews herself

February 25, 2011

Hi Carly how are you?

I’m wonderful today. Thank you for asking Carly.

Now Carly you were born with autism and even as a young child your family said they noticed a difference between you and your twin sister. When did you know you were autistic or different?

Carly, that’s a good question. I think I kind of knew when I was really young but it didn’t sink in until I was around five or six years old.

That’s very interesting Carly. Now, when you were younger you didn’t have a voice or any way to communicate. What was that like?

The truth was even though I didn’t have a voice I still communicated. It might not have been by words or spelling or by pictures symbols but I communicated.

I would point and gesture and make my needs and demands heard. It might not have been the most effective way but it worked and I would get what I needed.

Carly, if a child is gesturing and making an effort to communicate does that mean they might be able to eventually communicate?

Wow, that is a good question. I believe every child and adult that is living with autism has an inner voice and just because they can’t speak or talk doesn’t mean they can’t communicate. The fact they are even asking with hand gestures means they know what they want and they have thoughts and they have something to say or to add.

Carly where do you see the future of autism?

The future of autism looks so promising and hopeful for people with low to high functioning autism. Thanks to the breakthroughs in science, medicine and especially technology we are going to see some real special people emerge and start to share their stories to the world like I do. To tell you the truth it is starting now and I can’t wait to see the progression.

Well Carly I would like to thank you for letting me interview you.

Carly it is my honour to be interviewed by such a amazing reporter as yourself.
